Bass player Bjørn Marius Hegge´s compositions are instantaneous and hark back to the golden era of jazz from the 1950s and ´60s. His music is encapsulated by a touch of cool, a drip of blues, and a hint of bop and soul music characterized by swift-moving rhythms and meandering bass lines.

The Hegge Quintet is made up of some of the sharpest Scandinavian jazz musicians in the business today, – namely, Jonas Kullhammar, Martin Myhre Olsen, Vigleik Storaas, Håkon Mjåset Johansen and last but not least, Hegge himself. Together they explore Bjørn Marius´s compositions with curiosity and playful improvisation. They received the Spellemann Award for Best Jazz Album (“We Are Sorry, But You Can No Longer Be A Child”) in 2017, followed by a superb second album entitled “Feeling” in 2020.

Whilst their music is greatly inspired by jazz icons such as Cannonball Adderley, Ornette Coleman and Charles Mingus, the quintet is equally keen to propel their work into a new direction, allowing each individual member the freedom to explore.

“This is definitely feel-good jazz of the highest order”, writes Jazzviews.
