Yilian Cañizares is a formidable onstage personality whom we are finally fortunate enough to welcome back to Stavanger. She is undeniably one of the most innovative violinists on the international jazz and world music scene. Her music is a thrilling meeting point between her birthplace of Cuba and jazz, classical music, and African-inspired tunes. As well as being a gifted violinist, Cañizares is also a highly talented composer. Her self-penned compositions are often a fusion of various musical traditions, and she employs the medium of music to tell stories of her own culture and experiences. Her music is simultaneously melodious and rhythmically powerful.
