The Lyder Røed Quintet released the album “Upside Down” on Jazzland last autumn. The band was formed by Lyder after having played with each member in various settings over the years. These are some of his absolute favorite musicians, creating a perfect combination for the music they perform. The members are known for their work with acts such as Fieh, Tigerstate, the Philip Granly Trio, General Post Office, and Gabriella Garrubo.
The quintet’s new music is genuine and heartfelt, drawing inspiration from such artists as Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Nat Adderley, and much of the jazz music performed in the 1960s, as well as from Roy Hargrove more recently. Since the release of their first album, their music has evolved in the direction of American jazz tradition whilst keeping one foot—or at least a toe or two—grounded in the Norwegian jazz landscape.
