If one had to sum up John Surman in three words: British saxophone legend!

John Surman is well known in Norway for his long-standing and extensive collaboration with Karin Krog and has lived in Norway for many years. He was also a key feature of the jazz scene when he lived in Great Britain. Whilst living there he played with such greats as John McLaughlin, Bill Frisell, and Dave Holland, to name but a few.

Last winter Surman released a new work on ECM, entitled “Words Unspoken”. The musical journey from Surman’s imagination to the music sheet to the studio and to eventually playing live on stage may be looked upon as a type of mission to uncover the “words unspoken”, or the hidden meaning in the music.

The public can look forward to seeing a particularly fine group of people on stage in May. Apart from the mæstro himself, you can enjoy another brilliant Brit, the enormously popular guitarist called Rob Luft. The quartet is completed with two highly skilled gentlemen behind the sticks: Rob Waring on vibraphone and Thomas Strønen on drums.

We highly recommend that you spend a May evening in the company of this quartet!
