Electronics & Processed Guitars

A trio as obvious as a sine curve! They may not have appeared on stage together previously, but surely it must have been written in the stars that these guys would make music together. In many ways, guitarists Alf Terje Hana and Eivind Aarset have the same CV. Both are hard-working musicians who have worked with commercial Norwegian artists as well as advanced jazz constellations. Both have a genuine interest for their instrument and for its capabilities, both are open-minded  towards new musical impressions and expressions, and both are utterly hard-working masters of their craft. But perhaps their greatest common denominator of all is their clear curiosity about the combination of a fairly “classical” instrument such as the electric guitar and the boundless electronic world.

Eivind Aarset is well known to the Maijazz public. Who could possibly forget his amazing, commissioned piece “Electronique Noire” which was performed for the very first time at the festival in 1997, (and required so much power that the fuses at Folken blew!). Jan Bang has long been a nestor in the world of electronic music and samples. The two have collaborated since the early nineties in constellations featuring Nils Petter Molvær, Bugge Wesseltoft, Sly & Robbie and Jon Hassell. Alf Terje Hana has also earned the accolade of “nestor” in Stavanger´s musical milieu, and you may well have seen him performing in everything from huge stadium concerts to his very own constellations featuring international legends such as Gary Husband and Stewart Copeland. He has released a highly acclaimed album under his own name and has been described as “nothing less than one of a kind” by the renowned musical journalist, Tor Hammerø.

We have succeeded in uniting all three for a concert which knows no bounds, only possibilities. A thrilling cinematic soundtrack is in the making between three artists who respect and challenge each other.
