Torun Eriksen is gearing up for MaiJazz , with new material and a fifth solo album, “Grand White Silk”. Together with Kjetil Dalland, her long-time musical partner and full-time bassist, she has written, arranged and for the first time, produced, an album that investigates and embraces all contrasts: 10 songs spanning gospel, jazz, pop, soul and folk, with a highly personal touch. In her own words, Eriksen describes “Grand White Silk” as “a little more of everything”. The soundscape ranges from the grand and complex where analogue and digital synthesisers, acoustic and electric string instruments, drums, vocals and sound collages form a kind of organised chaos, to the simple, stripped down duo format.
Debuting with “Glittercard” in 2003, Eriksen already has four critically-acclaimed albums to her name, comprehensive tour schedules at home and abroad, as well as a dedicated and steadily growing domestic and international fan base.
“Melodic Joni Mitchell style jazz. Brilliant jazz pop beneath Torun Eriksen’s exquisite white silk veil” (Per A Risnes jr – Dagens Næringsliv)
“It would take a lot for “Grand White Silk” not to be found near the top of this year’s album of the year listings when the time comes” (Terje Mosnes – JazzNytt).
Line-up: Torun Eriksen – vocals; Jørn Øien – keyboards, Kjetil Dalland – bass; Andreas Bye – drums
