In 1998, a ground-breaking album was released in Norway, namely, Nils Petter Molvær´s legendary “Khmer”. The piece firmly established his position as one of the leading voices in the new European jazz movement of the ´90s. Massive beats and pounding grooves come together on the album in support of Molvær´s atmospheric trumpet solos. The finished product creates a bridge between the typical sound landscapes for which artists from the ECM record company are known, and the brave new world of trip-hop, drum ´n bass, ambient, techno, industrial, electronica, and samples of the time. “Khmer” was a resounding success, selling 250,000 copies around the world. Molvær´s music stretches out over time and space, submitting to contemporary new technology to gift us with ever-new impulses. The celebration of this gem in Norwegian jazz history is something you definitely don´t want to miss!
