The ensemble has performed at the festival for many years with guests such as Cyro Baptista, Ralph Towner, Valkyrien Allstars, John Scofield, Bugge Wesseltoft and many more. The ensemble is located in Bjergstedparken at the Faculty of Performing Arts, UiS, and Simen Kiil is currently the artistic director of the project ensemble.
This year it is Students’ Day! The audience will get to experience music written by trumpeter and graduate student, Ole Martin Rosvold Haugen, for his large ensemble OMEGA COLLECTIVE. The band released their first album “Omega I” in 2023. He is now presenting new music, which has been adapted for an expanded lineup.
The composer describes the music as a combination of hard-hitting riffs and catchy, singable melodies. Improvisation plays a central role in his compositions and the sources of inspiration are drawn from several places. This creates an organic, dynamic and unpredictable soundscape filled with more surprises. Through creative exploration, spontaneous playfulness, rhythmic energy and lyrical melodies, the audience is invited to a concert that captivates and engages.
