“I welcome children and adults to my fun solo concert, Ekornes i 100. There will be lots of rhythms and fun instruments that I have collected on my travels around the world. The audience can participate with movement, singing and drums….. Bring children, playmates, older siblings, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, classmates, neighbors and join me!!!!” Regards, Kenneth
Kenneth Ekornes has more than 100 different percussion instruments and displays many of them during the concert. He also tells stories about the instruments and the countries they come from such as Brazil, Africa, China and India.
With the help of loop machines, Kenneth creates an impressive film score-like soundscape, and the children are invited to guess which countries the music and instruments come from. A musical journey through jungle, desert and even a trip down to the bottom of the sea.
Ekornes is one of the country’s most sought-after drummers and percussionists and has specialized in jazz and folk music from various countries. In the last 20 years, he has toured the world and collaborated with artists such as Mari Boine, Trio De Janeiro, Nymark Collective, Annbjørg Lien, Steinar Ofsdal, Ole Paus, Frikar, Kristin Asbjørnsen, Inga Juuso, Ailu Gaup, Karl Seglem, Jai Shankar, Rosa Passos and Trio Preto, (Brazil) Diom de Kossa (Ivory Coast) and Tasili (Morocco). He has played on a number of children’s records and films such as ORPS, Jul i Blåfjell and Tre nötter til Askepott. The performance has been seen by thousands of excited schoolchildren and pre-school children around Norway. The press has referred to Kenneth as “a firework, a wizard, …..with a commitment that makes the drummer in The Muppet Show appear modest”.
