The stage is set for a replay with Amigo Tom. In 2016, he released a CD which was a live recording from Maijazz 2011. The music is a deep dive into the Brazilian musical treasure chest, featuring pieces which are less familiar to the European audience. The material has been hand-picked by Tom S. Lund, finely ground by his guitar and tailor-made for the ensemble. The music seethes with longing and suppressed passion.
The project has been named Amigo Tom, and there are several reasons for that. Obviously, because the word “amigo” means “friend”, but it is also a nod to the great Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, (popularly known as Tom), and to the project´s frontman Tom S. Lund, who is one of Europe´s best-loved bossa nova guitarists. Moreover, the Portuguese word “tom” means “note” in Norwegian. As far as the Stavanger audience is concerned, neither Eva Bjerga Haugen nor Tor Yttredal need any further introduction. Tor Yttredal has been the driving force behind the Bjergsted Jazzensemble for many years and has also amassed many projects featuring his own compositions. Eva Bjerga Haugen is the front figure in Fint Fransk Orkester, who have enjoyed enormous success.
