Sparkling energetic interplay with references from classical impressionism, American sixties free jazz and eighties pop meets collective boundary-breaking music with a sharpened focus on texture and timbres, suddenly replaced by explosive solo sections. Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio crossed paths at the jazz program in Trondheim in the autumn of 2022. Following last year’s edition of the launch program Jazzintro, the trio won the coveted title of “Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2024”, and as part of the launch, will be seen at a number of festivals. The Jury´s comments read as follows: “The compositions are of high class, demonstrating the type of rhythmic command which lends itself to ample musical spaces. The melodic and harmonious concepts give rise to a distinctive identity which in turn creates beautiful moments. The level of trust and sense of presence within the band rubs off on the audience and makes you yearn to hear more.”
Jazzintro is the country’s largest and only national launch program for young jazz musicians. Throughout the program, the Young Jazz Musicians of the Year are chosen, and get to experience a festival tour the following year, in addition to a tailor-made mentor program. Jazzintro is organized by the Norwegian Jazz Forum, in collaboration with several of the country’s most influential jazz clubs and festivals. Jazzintro is organized in collaboration with and supported by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Talent Norway.
