Daniel Herskedal has made his mark as an extraordinary musician and composer, and is recognized for his groundbreaking work with the tuba. He has developed a unique style of playing that challenges traditional perceptions of the instrument, and his music can be best described as alive – exuding a breath of fresh air and vitality.

With a style that flows between the world of jazz and classical compositions, Herskedal’s music displays emotional intensity, virtuosity, and evokes cinematic landscapes. His latest album, “Call for Winter II: Resonance,” is a continuation of the solo project by the same name, a craft strongly inspired by the harsh Norwegian landscape.

Daniel’s impressive body of work includes commissions from acclaimed ensembles such as the BBC Concert Orchestra, and as well as several critically acclaimed albums in his repertoire, he has also written compositions and arrangements for a handful of films. His collaborative project with Marja Mortensson also resulted in a Spellemann award in 2019.

“Although there is a significant cinematic quality about these melodic songs, Herskedal displays a poet’s knack for nuances, resulting in enchanting harmonies, infectious rhythmic mantras, and atmospheric textures. An impressive work from a single musician, the tuba has never sounded so mastered.” ALL ABOUT JAZZ
