German Afghan Simin Tander incorporates the whole world into her music. The Oslo-based vocalist transports her middle eastern heritage into a warm and powerful universe. Along the way she has released an album with Tord Gustavsen and Jarle Vespestad on the ECM Records label, as well as having collaborated with Nils Petter Molvær, Jan Bang and Arve Henriksen. With her new band, she brings together a sensitive musical aesthetic with a unique and characteristic vocal style, featuring lyrics about and by strong women. She is coming to perform at Maijazz with a “New Quartet”, ably supported by the mighty Jonas Kilmork Vemøy (Maridalen), Olav Torget (Kristin Asbjørnsen) and her regular drummer, Samuel Rohrer. This is bound to be endlessly beautiful music!
