Pocket Corner finds itself in a landscape which hovers between composed material and improvisation. The music moves from dense “grooves” to open landscapes, and they have truly found their niche in jazz.

The band has existed since 1986 and has had many line-ups, but always with Didrik Ingvaldsen as the driving force and bandleader. It is now turning 40 years as a rock/free-jazz band. To mark the occasion, they are bringing some special guests to this year´s Maijazz concert. Saxophonist Kjetil Møster has influenced the Norwegian and European music scene for 20 years – particularly in the world of jazz and experimental music in relation to contemporary classical music, for which he has won two Spellemann awards. Bassist Ola Høyer (b. 1984) works as a musician, composer and pedagogue. His work spans multiple genres and includes bands and ensembles such as Cortex, Moon Relay, Telehiv and Honest John. Pianist Øyvind Dale has played with Didrik in multiple different formations. He also plays regularly with Significant Time, Dag Magnus Narvesen and Kitchen Orchestra. And of course, the regular Pocket Corner members Glenn Brun Henriksen on saxophone and drummer Ståle Birkeland are in the mix. Both are real ring foxes with 20 years of experience in the band, whilst also featuring in countless band constellations.

This promises to be a high-energy concert featuring new music, as well as fantastic guests and performers.
