The bass queen!

There were many audience members who went home with stars in their eyes after the Maijazz concert by Polish Kinga Głyk in 2018. What a talent, what a virtuoso and what a communicator! It didn’t take long before people started asking when she was coming back. And now here she is!

Kinga started playing professionally at the age of 12. Her role models were the bass phenomenon Jaco Pastorius, known from Weather Report, and Marcus Miller, Miles Davis’s partner and producer in the 1980s. Pastorius’s almost impossibly lightning-speed bass lines, combined with Miller’s elegant funk, still evoke the sensation of a rustling in the reeds when Glyk plays. But she has long since put her “talented student” status firmly behind her and become a fully-fledged artist in her own right with her own style and ideas. At the age of just 20, she was invited up on stage by Marcus Miller; he was playing a concert in Germany.

Since then, there have been five studio albums featuring acclaimed American collaborators as well as the cream of Polish fusion musicians. Snarky Puppy founder Michael League co-produced her latest album “Real life”.

Kinga Głyk has also helped to break down the notion of instrumental jazz as a male phenomenon as well as the preconception of the bass as an instrument for Men with a capital M. She brings the bass to the forefront and does so with a self-assurance and musicality that captivates both audiences and critics. Her concerts are energetic, inspiring and impressive. Kinga is nothing less than a musician who must be experienced in “real life”. The audience at Maijazz 2026 can look forward to a terrific reunion with Poland’s currently foremost jazz and funk export.
