Håkon Kornstad & Stavanger Symphony Orchestra

Håkon Kornstad and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra to May Jazz 2020

MaiJazz would like to invite you to a concert combining the very best of both worlds when the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and Håkon Kornstad fuse classical music with jazz at Stavanger Konserthus.

Håkon Kornstad is a jazz saxophonist who has enjoyed worldwide success, and who can also add the title of “operatic tenor” to his list of achievements. As early on as the late nineties/turn of the century he was already making a name for himself as a prominent member of the new generation of jazz musicians. Kornstad has received excellent reviews from the New York Times, as well as extensive coverage in renowned musical publications all over the world. He has recorded more than twenty works, several of which have been nominated for the highly recognised Spellemann Award. In 2015 Kornstad was honoured with the “Buddy Award”, which is the most prestigious distinction in the world of Norwegian jazz.

In parallel with his legendary fusions of jazz and opera both at home and abroad, Kornstad continues to develop his career as a classical singer. The performance which is now on its way to Stavanger was a complete sell-out, twice over, at the Oslo Jazz Festival, where it was performed in collaboration with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. At our very own festival the performance will be accompanied by a full Symphony Orchestra. At May Jazz 2019 the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO) demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that they excel at crossover projects. Indeed, the concert given by SSO and Marius Neset was one of the absolute highlights of this year´s festival.
