Brad Mehldau Trio

Arguably one of the best piano trios in the world!

An almost indecently good technique, combined with originality and unsurpassed musical communication within the trio, makes the Brad Mehldau Trio an experience far beyond the ordinary. Perhaps the world’s best piano trio is back at Maijazz !

This year, Mehldau has released the album Variations on a Melancholy Theme on behalf of and featuring the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. “I imagine it as if Brahms woke up one day and had the blues,” Mehldau says of that music! We’re still waiting for a new trio record, but in the meantime we’m fine with the 2018 release Seymour reads the Constitution, a perfect, small bag of goodies from our own compositions and famous hits from the popular musical canon. Only Brad Mehldau can breathe life into songs you thought you had heard in death. Live, the trio is often even better than on record if possible, and who knows, maybe they play “Exit Music (For a Film)”? Then we know someone who will at least be happy!
