Taking to the stage on this particular evening are four powerful, attentive and highly original musicians. This quartet will be making its debut appearance in front of the Maijazz audience. The Helge Lien Trio and Tore Brunborg are a musical conglomeration in which all four write the music. This event shows every sign of being beautiful, lyrical, raw and explosive!
The Helge Lien Trio marks its 20th anniversary this year and is comprised today of Helge Lien (piano), Mats Eilertsen (bass) and Per Oddvar Johansen (drums). The trio is set to release its 10th album in April. Since its inception in 1999, the trio has made its mark as one of the country’s leading jazz bands, with hundreds of concerts in Europe and in Asia to its name. In 2008, the trio received the Spelleman Award for its album entitled “Hello Troll.”
Tore Brunborg (saxophone) has epitomised Norwegian jazz for decades with his warm, heartfelt and expressive personal style. He is a highly acclaimed musician who has played a vital part in creating Norwegian jazz history, working with other greats such as Masqualero, Ketil Bjørnstad and Tord Gustavsen, as well as working on his own individual projects.
“Tore Brunborg has been one of my greatest role models since I first started listening to jazz. I am looking forward immensely to playing with him and my trio at Maijazz says Helge Lien.
