Donny McCaslin – Grammy award winning American saxophonist, composer and musical pioneer is back In Stavanger. For the broad music audience he got his biggest international breakthrough as band leader on David Bowie’s “Blackstar”. Critics emphasized McCaslin’s vision and talent as a major contributing element on this album.
McCaslin is an artist with a long solo career. He has developed his style for over 25 years – from classically-educated jazz musician to versatile composer with inspirations from funk, rock, hip-hop and electronics. “Beyond Now” from 2016 is his lastest of so far 12 albums. On this album McClasin explores his fascination for pop music from a jazz musician view.
Whether it’s magical interaction with David Bowie, or hard swinging, but even melodic jazz with his own band, saxophonist Donny McCaslin creates wonderful music. The close collaboration with Bowie on his amazing last album Blackstar introduced the grammy nominated band leader to a wider audience.
